Jamaica-based artist, Xanili Rose, has been practicing visual art formally since 2014. She is 19 years old and currently a freshman at the Savannah College of Art and Design, apart from that, she enjoys working on her own projects to add to her personal collection. Xanili’s work is inspired by both the complexity and simplicity of human life and as it relates to media, she works with a number of them, predominantly ink, coloured-pencil, pastel and charcoal. She specializes in portraiture and the human form and is very passionate about depicting people as they are. Over the years she has won merit awards for her artistic achievements within the Caribbean and strives to continue creating recognizable and inspirational art. This still life depicts everyday items used during a workout. The drawing is done entirely in black pastel through a blending approach using a chamois and blending sticks. This piece was inspired by the concept of representative still life and strove to present a unified set of objects the viewer can relate to.
